The Nepal Medical Council is fully aware of its main mandate to only register medical doctors who are qualified enough to be trusted by the Nepalese public for medical service.
On analysis of the results of the Licensing Exam conducted by NMC for the past 8 years, it has become crystal clear that medical doctors that have studied abroad have been performing poorly in these Exams compared to their counterparts studying in Nepalese Medical Colleges. Among the multiple failure candidates (even upto 19th times), majority of the candidates are from abroad. We have come to the conclusion that the main reason for this disparity lies in the fact that Nepalese students studying in Nepal have to pass The Entrance Exam while those going abroad need not have to do so till date (of course there are other less crucial secondary reasons for the disparity in the results of the licensing Exam like language problems, curriculum, Reading and Learning methods etc.)
Thus, we have come to the conclusion and decided that from now onwards all Nepalese students wherever they study must pass (with a minimum of 50%) one of the Entrance Exams conducted by whether Minister of Education (MOE), or Tribhuvan University, or Kathmandu University, or BPKIHS.
We would highly appreciate if your medical institution could kindly cooperate in this endeavor. Accordingly, we request you to send in the final name list of all Nepalese candidates either in Medical or Dental studies enrolled at your medical institutions by fax (+977-1-4372318) or if that is not possible than by e-mail (nmc@nmc.org.np) . Thus we can tally that list send by you with the list of candidates having obtained "Eligibility Certificate" from us, Nepal Medical Council (NMC).
Medical Institutions that do not comply with our request will be penalized.
Thank you for your kind cooperation.
With Best Regards,
Dr. Damodar Gajurel
President
