FROM REGISTRAR’S DESK…

History of modern medical practice in Nepal in comparison to West is short. Modern medical practice started around 110 years back in Nepal with the establishment of Bir Hospital in Kathmandu. So, our code of conduct and moral behavior in relation to modern medicine if I am not wrong developing. However the conducts and moral behaviors a physician has to follow are universal in whatever country a physician might have been trained except the small part of the ethics which have been defined, directed or guided by the nation laws.

Ethics is an essential element of the modern medical practice to be followed by every practicing physician. It is becoming more important today than at the time of Hippocrates or Susruta because of increasing use of newer technology in the medical treatment.

I believe that the third edition of this booklet “Code of Ethics” will be useful to every practicing physician in Nepal. Nepal Medical Council welcomes suggestions about this edition of code of ethics. I like to thank to all the distinguished resource person who gave valuable suggestion and feedback to finalize this booklet.
